Annual Youth Expo at O.C. Fairgrounds

The Orange County Fairgrounds is gearing up for this weekend’s 1997 Youth Expo, an annual festival that highlights intellectual, artistic, musical and scientific achievement.

More than 11,000 projects by preschoolers through high school students have been entered in contests in science, engineering, music, art, agriculture and livestock.

The expo includes a jazz festival, a reptile and insect show and a talent search. A Girl Scout camp-out, crafts, a 15-foot climbing rock, a virtual reality batting cage and inflatable fun house are among the amusements.

Other attractions will include a face-painting booth and a mobile computer classroom.

The 18th annual expo runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission and parking are free.
