Police are searching for a man who reportedly tried to kidnap a 13-year-old as she was walking to school Monday. The girl broke free by elbowing him in the chest, police said.

About 7:35 a.m., the eighth-grader was walking to Spring View Middle School when a man got out of his car and began walking toward her, Police Lt. Luis Ochoa said. She ran, and he chased her and grabbed her from behind, Ochoa said.

“When she tried to scream, he put his hand over her mouth,” Ochoa said. “She hit several times with her elbows, probably in the chest, at which point he let her go.”

The girl ran about three blocks to the school at 16662 Trudy Lane and reported the incident to school officials, who called police.

“The same man had approached her two weeks earlier, when he followed her on her way home,” Ochoa said.

Investigators described the man as Latino with a thin build, long black hair and a mustache. He was wearing a black long-sleeve shirt and brown pants, Ochoa said.
