Council Considers Youth Facilities Plan

Responding to a request by the Boys and Girls Club of Capistrano Valley, the City Council tonight will discuss a proposal to develop youth services facilities at the San Juan Capistrano Community Center.

In February, Boys and Girls Club executive director Jim Williams presented a plan for the club to raise $1.5 million to construct an 11,000-square-foot, youth-oriented area at the center.

Williams said the new facilities would help ease crowding at the club, provide better services for children and encourage more community participation in youth activities.

“We all recognize that although youth are only 30% of our population, they are 100% of our future,” Williams told the council.

The city staff is recommending that the council move forward on the administrative process to allow the addition of youth-oriented facilities at the center.

The meeting will start at 7 p.m. in the City Council chamber, 32400 Paseo Adelanto. Information: (714) 493-1171.
