Fountain Valley School District Trustee Barbara Vogel said she plans to resign after more than six years on the board because she and her family are moving to Atlanta.

Vogel, 43, who made her announcement at Thursday’s school board meeting, said her husband has accepted a job transfer. She was first elected in 1990. Her final board meeting will be May 22 but she will serve through May 31.

“We will miss her very much, and she has served us well,” said Susan Grantham, executive assistant to the district. “And we hope she does well in her new phase in life in Atlanta.”

Rather than hold a special election, the district plans to appoint a new member to fill the seat until the term expires in November 1998. The board plans to review applications from candidates and conduct interviews at a special meeting in May.

Applicants can submit a letter of interest and their qualifications to district Supt. Marc Ecker, Fountain Valley School District, 17210 Oak St., Fountain Valley, CA 92708. The deadline to apply is May 7.
