‘James and the Giant Peach’ lands on Disney; KCET begins new ‘Storytime’

A lonely English orphan finds adventure and friends when he climbs inside a giant peach in James and the Giant Peach (Disney Channel, Sunday at 7 p.m.). Voices are provided by Susan Sarandon as Miss Spider and Richard Dreyfuss as Centipede in this animated musical from Walt Disney. For ages 5 to 10.

Young viewers are introduced to the story of the Exodus and the freeing of the Hebrews from slavery in Shari’s Passover Surprise (KCET, Sunday at 6 p.m., repeats Monday at 8 a.m.). Shari Lewis, host and creator of the children’s television series, “Lamb Chop’s Play-Along,” uses stories, song and humor to explain the special holiday. Dom LeLuise, Robert Guillaume and Alan Thicke guest star. For the family.

The spring season of KCET’s Storytime (weekdays at 11 a.m.) premieres this week. Guest readers include Geena Davis, Jason Alexander and David Hyde Pierce. For ages 3 to 7.

Moesha convinces her father that her boyfriend “Q” should come to dinner so the two men can get to know each other in “Guess Q’s Coming to Dinner,” on Moesha (UPN, Tuesday at 8 p.m.). Things don’t go quite as good as she hoped. For ages 10 to 15.

Tempest Bledsoe plays a teenage girl thrilled to have been asked out on her first date by the star of the football team, played by Kadeem Hardison, in Dream Date (ABC, Saturday at 1 p.m.) For 10 to 17.
