Ventura police arrested a man early Sunday on suspicion of burglary and sexually assaulting a woman as she slept.

Scott Hanson, 31, of Ventura was taken into custody and booked into Ventura County Jail shortly after the 3 a.m. incident, which occurred in the 2400 block of Channel Drive in Ventura.

Police accused Hanson of breaking into the residence and entering the bedroom where the 24-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man were sleeping. He allegedly placed his hand under the blanket and onto the woman’s leg, then ran off when she awoke.

A few minutes later, both victims saw the suspect walk past their residence. The man gave chase and struggled with Hanson until police arrived, authorities said.

Police also suspect Hanson was involved in an earlier incident in which a couple was followed home from a nightclub. Authorities did not have any other information on the earlier incident.

Hanson is described as having shoulder-length blond hair and was wearing blue denim coveralls and a white shirt at the time of his arrest. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact police.
