TODAY’S GAME

ANGELS’

MARK LANGSTON

(1-2, 4.66 ERA)

vs.

JOHN WASDIN

(0-0, 4.38)

* UPDATE: Langston is the key to whether the Angels will stay with a four-man rotation a while longer, according to Manager Terry Collins. Langston prefers to pitch on three days’ rest and, if he is successful, Collins will stay with it. Langston went seven innings, giving up four runs, on three days’ rest against Toronto on Wednesday. The Angels have won six games in their last at-bat, including three of their last four. First baseman and leadoff batter Darin Erstad, who is nursing a strained hamstring, made the trip but is still day to day. Orlando Palmeiro is two for 10 with two runs scored in three games replacing Erstad in the leadoff spot. Red Sox rookie shortstop Nomar Garciaparra, who played at Bellflower St. John Bosco High, continues to play impressively in the field and is hitting .315. He has stolen 10 bases in 11 attempts. Mo Vaughn, who did not have a home run in the first 11 games, has six in the last 12.

* Wednesday, 3 p.m.--Jason Dickson (4-0, 2.78) vs. Chris Hammond (0-0, 3.86).

* Thursday, 3 p.m.--Chuck Finley (0-1, 4.86) vs. Tom Gordon (1-3, 3.23).
