Spot Found on Isringhausen’s Lung

New York Met pitcher Jason Isringhausen underwent additional medical tests Tuesday after chest X-rays found a spot on his lung.

Trainer Fred Hina said said the team doesn’t know what is wrong with Isringhausen, 24, who complained of flu-like symptoms in Florida over the weekend.

He began feeling chest pain last weekend in Florida, where he was rehabilitating a broken right wrist suffered when he slammed his fist into a trash can after a bad outing while on a rehabilitation assignment with triple-A Norfolk.

After experiencing nausea and breathing difficulty, the pitcher went to an emergency room Saturday night.

The Cincinnati Reds, the team with the worst earned-run average (6.34) in the major leagues, brought up veteran catcher Joe Oliver, 31, from the minor leagues.

The Reds also brought up veteran third baseman Terry Pendleton, 36, though the Cincinnati Enquirer reported that he might be sent to the Chicago White Sox in a trade.

Pittsburgh starting pitcher Francisco Cordova was hit in the left ankle by a hard one-hopper of the bat of Philadelphia’s Rob Butler in the fifth inning Tuesday night and left the game. Cordova picked up the ball and threw out Butler, then fell to the ground in pain.

Jake Remington, a minor league pitcher for the San Diego Padres at class-A Rancho Cucamonga, suffered multiple fractures of the skull and nose and around both eyes in Bakersfield when he was hit by a batted ball after stepping from behind a screen in batting practice.
