A double-deck boat tipped over Saturday afternoon in shallow waters at the Rivers of America ride, a Disneyland spokesman said.

The mishap occurred at 5:25 p.m. as a keelboat carrying an unknown number of passengers near Tom Sawyer’s Island was rocking from side to side, said a witness.

Jim Carnal of Bakersfield said he was paddling in a canoe behind the boat when it tipped over. He said that several people were pulled ashore, including at least two pregnant women and some small children.

Carnal, who said he gouged a leg as he was trying to help people out of the water, said he and others were treated for minor injuries at St. Joseph Hospital in Orange.

Matt Blaty, a Disneyland spokesman, said park officials are investigating. He said he had no information about injuries. The ride is at least 20 years old, Blaty said.
