Oxnard Children’s Museum Gets Reprieve

OXNARD — The success of a plea for monetary assistance prompted the board of directors of Gull Wing Children’s Museum on Thursday to keep the facility open indefinitely.
Earlier this month, officials with the private nonprofit museum had said that without an injection of money, the museum would close June 1 after eight years of operation. The loss of several recent grants and a poor response to a recent fund-raiser led to the shaky financial position, spokeswoman Heather Rubio said.
The 13-member board gave no financial details in a short statement released after the three-hour meeting but said its decision to keep the facility open was based on the “positive and encouraging response from the community.”
However, the board warned that the museum’s continued operation was based on receiving future financial support from businesses and individuals.
More information will be released at a press conference scheduled for Thursday, the board said.
