The NHL will not change its rules governing the use of video replay to determine whether an offensive player is in the crease when a goal is scored. General managers had proposed allowing the video goal judge to inform the referee in such cases, but decided not to make that recommendation to the Board of Governors.

“We tore the man-in-the-crease rule apart and the strong sentiment is it’s working and we’re going to stay with it without modifications,” said Brian Burke, the NHL’s director of hockey operations. “Players are adapting.”

He also said the general managers rejected suggestions that the shape or size of the crease be changed to minimize the number of violations.

Goalies’ gloves and shoulder pads, which unlike leg pads and blockers are not required to meet size limits, will be discussed by Burke and a panel of NHL goalies within the next two weeks. Burke said the NHL Players Assn. is arranging a meeting that will include Edmonton’s Curtis Joseph, Toronto’s Felix Potvin and Colorado’s Patrick Roy.
