*** Rome, “Rome,” Grand Jury Entertainment/RCA. Too many R&B; Romeos these days don’t have enough talent to go around. So why is it that Rome’s self-titled debut, despite musical cliches throughout, proves so engaging? Much of the background music sounds like an R. Kelly tribute, but Rome somehow makes himself distinctive. His heartfelt renditions of such songs as the sexually aggressive “Do Me Right” and the gentle “Real Joy” show this Los Angeles Lothario has a legitimate shot at the big time. Albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor), two stars (fair), three stars (good) and four stars (excellent).
