Funeral Set for Teen Hit by Ball

A funeral service will be held Saturday for Julius O. Riofrir, the Glendale athlete who died Tuesday from head injuries suffered during a practice session.

Riofrir, who graduated from Glendale High School last week, played baseball for the American Legion baseball team in Glendale. He and another player were warming up for a game Sunday night when he was struck in the head by a ball that apparently ricocheted off the side of the batting cage. Riofrir was declared brain-dead Monday and died early Tuesday after being taken off life support.

Viewing will be today from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at Church of the Recessional, Forest Lawn Memorial-Park Glendale, 1712 S. Glendale Ave.

The funeral Saturday will be at 10 a.m. at Incarnation Catholic Church, 1001 N. Brand Blvd.
