Workers Treated, Residents Evacuated After Acid Spill
A hydrochloric acid spill Thursday outside a chemical plant in Industry sent nearly two dozen people to hospitals complaining of shortness of breath and nausea, authorities said.
None of the injuries appeared serious, authorities said. More than 200 gallons of the acid spilled from a tanker during an on-site transfer at All Pure Chemical Co. in the 13200 block of Amar Road, a county fire official said .
About 200 people were evacuated from four nearby businesses and a handful of adults working at Torch Middle School had to be evacuated shortly after the 9 a.m. incident. No students were there because the school is in summer recess.
