Marlins Go Up for Sale
Less than a year after spending $89 million on free agents, and less than five years after the team started play, H. Wayne Huizenga said Thursday he is putting the Florida Marlins up for sale.
“You shouldn’t fall in love with a team,” Huizenga said. “We kept spending, spending and spending and it had just gotten to a point where it just doesn’t work.”
Huizenga pledged he will sell the Marlins only to an owner or ownership group that will keep them in South Florida and that he doesn’t have a set price.
Attendance at Marlin games has increased 35% from 1996--the largest increase in the major leagues--but Huizenga claimed he will still lose $30 million this year if attendance doesn’t improve even more.

The Houston Astros optioned starting pitcher Donne Wall to triple-A New Orleans and purchased the contract of pitcher Tommy Greene from the Zephyrs.
