St. Louis Turns Away Bullfrogs, 6-5

St. Louis goalie Mark Cavallin stoped 43 of 48 shots as the Vipers beat the Bullfrogs, 6-5, in a Roller Hockey International game Thursday in front of 2,645 at the Kiel Center.

The Bullfrogs (5-3) opened a 3-0 lead on goals by Glen Stewart, Jim Bermingham and Todd Wetzel.

Ten seconds after Wetzel’s ninth goal of the season, C.J. Yoder put St. Louis on the scoreboard. Viper Dave Shute beat Anaheim goalie David Goverde on the short side, cutting the deficit to 3-2.

The Vipers (4-3) took advantage of a slashing penalty called against Chris Newans in the second quarter. Christian Skoryna scored his eighth goal of the season to tie the score at 3-3. Skoryna led the Vipers with two goals and an assist.

Newans scored an unassisted goal in the second quarter to give Anaheim a 4-3 lead, but St. Louis answered with a goal by Frank Cirone.
