Four Lauded for Saving Woman From House Fire

Four men who rescued a disabled woman from a fire were honored this week by Anaheim police and fire officials.

Mike Vega, Joe Pesqueira, John Storm and Mike White each received a plaque at a City Council meeting Tuesday for their efforts to save Beverly Bryan, 44, from a burning home on Grayson Avenue on June 12.

Storm and White, neighbors of Bryan, called the Police and Fire departments when they saw smoke billowing from the house where Bryan rented a room. While Pesqueira ran down the street knocking on doors seeking help, Vega hurried through a backyard gate and into the house, eventually dragging Bryan out to safety.

Fire Chief Jeff Bowman said the men acted quickly and expertly in calling for help and pulling Bryan out of the building.

“We’re not encouraging people running into burning houses, but in this case it certainly worked out,” Bowman said.

Mayor Tom Daly called the four men “community heroes.”

Bryan was treated at Martin Luther Hospital in Anaheim for first-degree burns on her face and second-degree burns on her right arm and neck. She was released after three days. City officials said they have no information on her whereabouts or condition.
