Grass Fire Burns 4 Acres, Prompts Calls
A fire that was fanned by strong winds burned four acres of grass Tuesday near the Wood Ranch Country Club in Simi Valley, sending up a plume of smoke that could be seen as far away as Ventura, authorities said.
The fire at High Meadow Street and Wood Ranch Parkway was reported at 1:45 p.m.
Although no structures were threatened, the blaze prompted numerous calls to authorities, said Sandi Wells, information officer for the Ventura County Fire Department.
“We had a lot of 911 phone calls on this one,” Wells said.
“It appeared to be right on top of the houses.”
Flames moved through the light grass quickly, pushed by south winds up to 30 mph. “The light grass burns fast and creates a lot of smoke,” Wells said.
County fire crews had the fire contained shortly after 2 p.m.
