Vigilantes Win on Barberie’s Homer

Share

After three straight losses, the Vigilantes finally got some key hits to beat Chico, 2-1, in a Western Baseball League game Tuesday night at Saddleback College.

Chico appeared to be on its way to victory following Tim Cooper’s fourth-inning home run.

But second baseman Willie Mosher--who was involved in a near brawl after one of the Chico players claimed he stepped on his hand when he slid into second base--got things going for the Vigilantes when he opened the bottom of the fourth with a double.

Bret Barberie then hit his 11th home run to drive in Mosher and give the Vigilantes the lead for good.

The Vigilantes (15-18) got strong pitching from Paul Anderson, who went the distance with nine strikeouts, one earned run and no walks. Anderson, who was the WBL pitcher of the year last year, improved to 5-8.

Chico dropped to 18-15.

The Vigilantes finish the five-game series with Chico tonight at Saddleback College.
