StingRays Open Their First Season (and ABL’s Second) on Oct. 17

The American Basketball League released its 44-game schedule Wednesday and it has the league’s newest team, the Long Beach StingRays, opening at home against the San Jose Lasers on Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m.

The StingRays, who will open training camp at Long Beach State on Sept. 2, have two other October home games, Oct. 21 against the Colorado Xplosion and Oct. 28 against the ABL champion Columbus Quest.

Two other StingRay schedule highlights: the first appearances of the league’s two prized, high-priced rookies, Kate Starbird and Kara Wolters.

Starbird, the Naismith Award winner from Stanford, and the Seattle Reign visit Long Beach on Nov. 9. Wolters, the 6-foot-7 center from Connecticut, will be in town with the New England Blizzard on Jan. 10.
