Dow E. Mackey; Retired Foreman at Base
Dow E. “Ed” Mackey of Fillmore, a retired foreman at the Naval Construction Battalion Center at Port Hueneme and a longtime Ventura County resident, died Tuesday in a local hospital after a brief illness. He was 68.
Mackey was born Dec. 16, 1928, in Milo, Okla., and was a resident of Ventura County for 55 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed bowling.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Velma; two daughters, Patricia Olsen of Tollhouse, Calif., and Kathy Villareal of Santa Paula; one son, Mike of Fillmore; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Mackey is also survived by two brothers, Clifford Mackey of Fox, Okla., and Leon Mackey of Bakersfield; and one sister, Flossie Cable of Walla Walla, Wash.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, Fillmore. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Bardsdale Cemetery in Fillmore.
Arrangements are under the direction of Skillin-Carroll Mortuary.
