SunJet International will begin offering flights from Long Beach to Seattle and Las Vegas in October, boosting total daily flights at the city’s airport from 15 to 20 immediately, and possibly to 25 by year’s end, officials said.

SunJet officials say they plan to offer two flights a day, six days a week, to Seattle. The airline will offer one flight a day, four days a week, to Las Vegas. In November it will begin daily flights to Newark and Houston, officials said.

“We are here to advertise and promote Long Beach,” said SunJet official Carey Evans, adding that the firm wants to make Long Beach the center of its West Coast operations. “This is a destination.”

Mayor Beverly O’Neill said there is a strong demand for flights to Las Vegas and a real need for regular flights to Seattle, the home of Boeing Aircraft, in the wake of the McDonnell Douglas-Boeing merger.
