Larry Carlson Named Tustin High Principal
Larry Carlson, assistant principal at Costa Mesa High School, will succeed Bob Boies as the principal of Tustin High School, the city’s school board has decided.
Boies resigned the post in June to accept a job as principal of Newport Harbor High School.
Carlson, 51, is a 29-year veteran of public education. He has been assistant principal at Costa Mesa High School since 1989.
“I am extremely excited about coming to Tustin High, which is known for its long-standing tradition of academic, artistic and athletic excellence,” Carlson said. “I look forward to meeting the students and parents, working with the teachers and staff, and getting to know the community.”
Tustin officials said Carlson was chosen for his wide range of expertise in high school management, including academics, athletics, budget, curriculum, counseling and technology.
Carlson began his career as an elementary school teacher. He joined the Newport Mesa district in 1970, where he taught elementary school, drama, math, science and physical education.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Bemidji State University in Minnesota and a master’s degree in educational administration from National University.
