Want to know what’s happening in Surf City? Try surfing the Internet.
That’s because Huntington Beach has just opened its own Web site in an effort to better reach residents and people worldwide. (https://www.ci.huntington-beach.ca.us)
“We’re looking at different audiences like potential tourists, business people interested in doing business here and city residents,” said James Hanggi, a city spokesman and designer of the Web site.
Hanggi said the city’s home page will provide information regarding several city departments including police, fire and public works.
“In most cases, residents can get information that saves them a phone call or a trip to City Hall,” Hanggi said.
The city also is using the Web site to market itself to potential movie makers interested in filming locally. The Web site provides basic information that filmmakers need to apply for permits.
The majority of city departments previously managed their own Internet sites independently, but under the new home page, all will be linked together in one centralized place.
The system will allow computer users to e-mail officials. and other information.
