Gore and Hogarth Fall at Amateur

Jason Gore of Valencia had his impressive summer come to an end Thursday when he lost, 2 and 1, to Robert Gerwin II of Cincinnati in the second round of match play of the U.S. Amateur Championship at Cog Hill Golf and Country Club in Lemont, Ill.

Tim Hogarth of Chatsworth also lost in Thursday’s second round, going 4-down after eight holes before losing, 5 and 3, to Ryuji Imada of Tampa, Fla.

Gore was 2-up after 13 holes but Gerwin won the next four holes. Gore did not trail until the 16th hole.

Gore was coming off an impressive 2-0-1 performance in the Walker Cup in which he helped the U.S. team defeat Great Britain and Ireland.

In his last six tournaments, Gore won the California Amateur, the California Open, Oxnard City Championships and the Pacific Coast Amateur. His was third in the NCAA championships and second in the SCGA Amateur.

Gore plans to turn pro soon but will return to Pepperdine next week for the three classes he needs to earn his psychology degree.
