LA PALMA — A 73-year-old La Palma woman died after a pickup truck driver ran a red light and hit the car she was riding in Friday night, police said.
Victoria Vilela was riding with her daughter, Carmelita Vilela, 51, also of La Palma, in a Honda Accord about 6:45 p.m., La Palma police said. They were headed south on Walker Street and were turning left onto Orangethorpe Avenue when a westbound Mazda pickup ran a red light and hit the car, police said.
The pickup’s driver, Elva Becera, 29, of Paramount, and the Vilelas were taken to La Palma Intercommunity Hospital, where the mother died of her injuries.
Becera was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, officials said.
