Camarillo Seventh-Grader Wins Essay Contest

* Lindsay Hebert, a seventh-grader at Chaparral Middle School in Camarillo, won first place in the “I Can Make a Difference” essay contest held by Assemblyman Nao Takasugi (R-Oxnard). Lindsay, joined by parents Michael and Diane Hebert, will travel to Sacramento on Monday to meet with Takasugi and tour the state Capitol. She will receive a state flag and a Certificate of Recognition.

Volunteer Saluted for Work at Hospice

* Community Conscience honored Maria Prescott of Thousand Oaks with its quarterly award, recognizing her volunteer work with the Conejo Valley-based hospice. Prescott has volunteered at the hospice since 1991, including stints as a board member and providing bereavement support.

4 Ventura Rotary Presidents Announced

* Rotary International announced the new presidents of the four Ventura clubs: Everett Millais, Rotary Club of Ventura; Joseph Strohman, Rotary Club of Ventura East; Bob Braitman, Rotary Club of Ventura South; Martin Bailey, Ventura Marina Rotary Club.
