Red Cross Chapter Calls for Volunteers to Help at Blood Drives

The Ventura County chapter of the American Red Cross is seeking volunteers to assist with blood drives.

Opportunities include greeting and registering donors, assisting nurses in the donor room and monitoring donors in the refreshment area after they have given blood.

“Volunteers are invaluable to us,” said Sharon Manatt, volunteer coordinator of the American Red Cross Blood Services. “They make such a nice connection to the public.”

Manatt explained that volunteers help the nurses by providing much-needed nurturing for donors, as well as improving the efficiency of bloodmobile operations.

No experience is required. Training, which lasts about an hour, will be provided on the premises.

Manatt said she expects about half a dozen blood drives in the county next month. Each drive lasts a maximum of six hours, and volunteers may assist at as many or as few as they wish.

Volunteers will not handle blood.

For information, call Manatt at (800)-880-9260.
