Man in Truck’s Path Killed on Freeway

An Anaheim man died Monday after he stepped in front of a tractor-trailer trying to avoid him on Interstate 5, the California Highway Patrol said.

About 11 a.m., the 28-year-old man was headed north on the freeway south of Artesia Boulevard when he pulled to the shoulder and got the jack out of his car’s trunk, CHP Officer Bonnie Blatt said.

For an unknown reason, he stepped into the path of a tractor-trailer that then tried to swerve around him, Blatt said. But the man kept moving in front of the truck, she said. The truck and at least one other vehicle struck him, Blatt said.

“We don’t know if this was intentional, but we’re still investigating this,” Blatt said.

No charges are expected against the truck driver, she said. The crash closed northbound freeway lanes for more than two hours, the CHP reported.
