Center Seeks Mentors to Coach New Parents

Share

The Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center needs volunteers for a “welcome baby” program that coaches first-time parents.

Volunteers in the program act as mentors and role models for parents who have no support system or prior experience as parents. Classes teach basic baby care and infant development.

The program is funded by the United Way and a grant from Insuring the Children, a nonprofit organization. The mission is to break the cycle of child abuse.

Volunteers receive training in current infant care methods as well as information on the causes of child abuse and how to prevent it. All classes are taught by professional case managers.

There is an urgent need for bilingual volunteers.

The two-day training course meets Sept. 9-10 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the center, 2482 Newport Blvd., Suite 7, Costa Mesa.

Information: (714) 722-1107.
