Thirteen hours after a dying gang member was found slumped in his car, an 18-year-old La Habra man was arrested Thursday morning as the suspected gunman, police said.

Armando Sanchez was being held Thursday at La Habra City Jail on suspicion of shooting 20-year-old Randy Pulido, who was found at 10:20 p.m. Wednesday unconscious and bleeding in his car on La Habra Boulevard, police said.

Pulido, shot once in the torso, died about an hour later at Friendly Hills Regional Medical Center, La Habra Police Capt. Terry Rammell said.

An earlier report of shots fired in the 200 block of South Marian Street led police to the site where investigators believe Pulido was wounded, Rammell said.

Evidence and witness statements suggested that Pulido was shot as he drove away from the area. His injury apparently overwhelmed him after he had driven several hundred yards and turned onto La Habra Boulevard, Rammell said.

Both victim and suspect have identified themselves as gang members during past encounters with police, Rammell said. A specific motive for the shooting was not clear Thursday, he said.
