Re “MTA Plan to Replace Famed Stars Draws Fire,” Aug. 21: Of course the MTA would rather destroy a portion of the famed Walk of Fame than pay the price to adequately preserve this precious link with the history of Hollywood. Here’s a thought: How about if the MTA rents out its downtown marble tower, moves its offices into one of the many vacant Hollywood buildings abandoned due to the decimation caused by the subway tunneling, preserves the Walk of Fame and saves us all a lot of money and heartbreak?

* Re “Lane Will Be Added to Offramp Near LAX,” Aug. 13: Why is the MTA funding the addition of an offramp lane to the Century Freeway’s airport exit? I thought the MTA exists to fund and support the buses and trains of our county’s public transit system, not to build highway lanes for private automobiles. Airport officials and Caltrans should either find an appropriate funding source or leave the exit as it is.
