The KLF--the mysterious English duo whose influential techno-pop output was highlighted by the 1992 hit “Justified & Ancient,” which featured Tammy Wynette singing non sequitur lyrics and appearing as a cult queen in the video--is returning to action after five years away. Sort of.

Now billing themselves as 2K, Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty are planning to play just one show, at London’s Barbican Main Hall on Tuesday, with the performance lasting just 23 minutes. The show will be recorded and released as a CD single on Sept. 22. The new name is a reference to the coming of the year 2000, with ads for the event noting that the during the performance “the next 840 days of our lives will be discussed.”

Inspiration for the event came earlier this year when a young British artist named Deller staged a show in London titled “Acid Brass,” in which the award-winning William Fairey Brass Band played arrangements of eight rave anthems--among them the KLF’s “What Time Is Love?”
