An investigation into possible voter fraud in June’s San Francisco 49ers stadium election is looking into charges of dead people voting, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

The secretary of state and San Francisco city attorney’s office are trying to determine if the names of dead or fictitious people were recorded as having voted in the stadium election.

“We have to determine if illegal votes were cast, then determine if there was an organized intent to cast illegal votes, then find out who those people were [behind it],” secretary of state spokesman Alfred Charles said. “We then have to see if this was a systematic problem or an isolated case.”

State voting officials said an extensive analysis--including confirmations of birth records, signature cards and Social Security numbers--would be necessary to determine fraud.

A city attorney’s investigator has been asked to conduct a citywide review of voter signatures.
