College to Use Grant for Library Improvements

Share

Whittier College will use a $5-million gift--the largest the college has ever received--to expand and remodel its library.

“This grant marks a milestone for Whittier College,” said President James L. Ash Jr. “The library represents the intellectual heart of any academic institution, and to receive such generous support for this project is exciting and gratifying.”

Plans call for seismic retrofitting of the 33-year-old Bonnie Bell Wardman Library, as well as adding electronic information resources and additional space for study areas, special collections and new acquisitions.

The grant is from a Los Angeles foundation that has requested anonymity, college officials said.

Other donors are being approached for the project, estimated to cost $12 million, said development director Joseph M. Zanetta.
