16 Panels From AIDS Memorial Quilt on Display

Sixteen panels from an international memorial AIDS quilt are on display through Dec. 10 at the Rogers Park Recreation Center in Inglewood.

Each 3-foot by 6-foot panel contains the name of someone who died of AIDS. The panels are a small part of the Names Project Memorial Quilt, which contains more than 27,000 sections. Each piece is made by a friend, lover or family member of an AIDS victim.

The San Francisco-based Names Project does not reveal where people were from, but makes sure that each exhibit includes panels that represent people who lived in the area where the quilt is displayed.

Inglewood officials brought the quilt to the city to commemorate World AIDS Day on Monday and to educate residents about the disease.

The quilt can be viewed Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 9:55 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4:55 p.m.
