Man Fleeing Police Hurt in 40-Foot Fall
A 38-year-old Tustin man remained hospitalized Thursday after breaking his leg and suffering back injuries when he apparently leaped from a freeway overpass to evade police, authorities said.
Patrick Edward King was being tracked by a police helicopter Wednesday night when he ditched his truck on the southbound Orange Freeway and jumped into a riverbed near Katella Avenue, according to Sgt. Joe Vargas. Earlier, King had led patrol officers on a high-speed chase after refusing to stop for a traffic violation, police said.
King was being treated Thursday at UCI Medical Center in Orange for injuries he suffered in the 40-foot fall and, after his recovery, is expected to be booked on suspicion of drunk driving and felony evading police, Vargas said.
