SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Buena High opened its season with an 80-33 victory over Camarillo in the first round of the Buena girls’ basketball tournament on Wednesday.

The Bulldogs scored the first nine points of the game and never looked back.

Senior guard Renae Hofmann had 16 points, six assists and seven steals for the Bulldogs.

Buena forced seven turnovers in the first quarter while building a 20-6 lead, which was extended to 36-14 by halftime, yet Coach Joe Vaughan saw room for improvement.

“We played well at times, but we’re not as consistent as we should be,” Vaughan said.

“It was good to get a game under our belt, [because] we’ve had 20 practices and we’re tired of looking at each other.”
