Thuggery Is One Role Young Fans Can’t Model
The bottom line is that the Sprewell incident is about the rules of life; how human beings treat each other.
It’s not really about the NBA’s labor contract or incomprehensible salary cap.
Sprewell was paid $32 million. All his home games were televised. Kids in the Bay Area wore his number. He was a role model.
If he could get away with using violence, or gain a better team and a better contract by beating up his coach, it would be an awful message to schoolyard players wearing his number.
Where have you gone, Willie Mays, Bill Russell and Roberto Clemente? Where have you gone, grace and class?
