Master Plan OKd for Heritage Park Project

The City Council has taken another step toward a $7-million expansion and rehabilitation of Heritage Park Aquatics Complex, approving master plans this week for the project.
But there still could be a snag in getting the work started.
Mayor Christina L. Shea said the city needs the Irvine Unified School District, or another entity, to contribute about $3 million toward the project.
The council has been negotiating with the district but has not received word yet on whether the money will be available.
Plans for the complex include increasing the 33-meter pool to 50 meters; adding an 800-square-foot food area; adding a 25-yard instruction pool; remodeling locker rooms to be accessible to the disabled and refurbishing bleachers.
As part of the action, the council approved a $608,120 payment to Water Technology Inc. for creating the plan, including construction drawings and geotechnical site work.
