Task Force to Consider Noise Over Neighborhoods Near LAX

FAA Administrator Jane Garvey, visiting to discuss expansion at Los Angeles International Airport, announced Friday that a task force will be formed to address two issues involving noise over nearby neighborhoods.

Garvey said the task force would work on early turns of departing aircraft over residential areas and on low-altitude approaches of airplanes landing at the facility.

The group will include representatives from the Federal Aviation Administration, the American Transport Assn., the airline industry lobbying arm, and the airport.

LAX is working on a master plan to expand its passenger traffic 60% by 2015.

Garvey, who met with airport officials, later attended a town meeting at Loyola Marymount University.

Residents and officials from neighboring South Bay cities expressed their concerns about the plan.
