Trustees Change School Boundaries

New boundaries have been adopted for Arbolita Elementary, which will open in the fall for students in kindergarten through second grade.

La Habra City School District officials expect the changes to move about 440 students from El Cerrito, Ladera Palma and Las Lomas elementary schools to Arbolita.

The school, which served as a day-care center for years, is opening in response to overcrowding caused by the district’s class-size reduction program and a growing enrollment.

The new school will draw students who live in an area generally bordered by the county line, Cypress Street, Harbor Boulevard and Lambert Road.

The boundary shifts also will move about 125 students from Las Lomas to El Cerrito, 60 pupils from Ladera Palma to El Cerrito and 67 children from El Cerrito to Ladera Palma.

District trustees said numerous public hearings were held on the boundary plan before they gave it unanimous approval Thursday. Families affected will be notified by mail.
