Slaying Believed to Be Gang-Related
A 20-year-old man was shot and killed Friday night in what police are investigating as a gang-related crime, a police spokesman said.
Rafael Rodriguez was shot about 11 p.m. in the 12700 block of Van Nuys Boulevard. Authorities responded to a call at 11:10 p.m. and took Rodriguez by ambulance to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills.
He died at the hospital during the night, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
Police described the suspect as a young Latino man wearing a plaid shirt. He fled in a dark-colored vehicle. Officials said the suspect is believed to be a gang member.
Homicide detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Foothill Division are investigating the incident in conjunction with the LAPD’s gang-related crime CRASH unit.
