Top-ranked Santa Margarita (5-0) opens the Encinitas La Costa Canyon tournament Friday. The Eagles could face host La Costa Canyon (2-1) in Tuesday’s championship game. Tom Gorrell, in his first season at La Costa Canyon, is the former Cypress coach and Times Orange County coach of the year in 1995-96.
At the Sonora tournament Saturday, No. 3 Tustin (7-0) and No. 4 Sonora (6-1) could meet in the final at 8 p.m. The Irvine World News tournament’s championship game is 7 p.m. Saturday at Concordia University.
