Mayor Loses TV Case Alleging Rabbit Attack
A customer who said she was attacked by a rabbit at Mayor Gil Jones’ family mini farm has won $1,200 in a ruling by television Judge Judy Sheindlin.
Plaintiff Laurie Majul, 39, of Oceanside, initially filed the claim in Orange County Municipal Court. She alleged a black rabbit with orange speckles attacked her and left a wound the size of a 50-cent piece on her leg during an Aug. 21 visit with her son Scott, 4.
“[The rabbit] came out from under a bench and grabbed my leg with its arms and mouth, then it dug in and refused to let go,” she said. “I never knew rabbits could be so dangerous.”
The “Judge Judy” show, which selects cases from courts nationwide, pays all judgments awarded in its makeshift courtroom, plus $100 to appear. The rabbit segment could air locally on KTLA in February or March.
Jones contended that the judge speeded through his case without hearing his side of the story. “I would have preferred we have a legitimate trial--even if we had lost,” Jones said.
“Judge Judy’s program is show business, it’s not justice,” he added.
