Fullerton Women Roll Past Santa Monica, 92-77
Fullerton, which had four starters score in double figures, defeated Santa Monica, 92-77, in the first round of the Fullerton women’s basketball tournament Saturday at Fullerton.
Aimee Copp scored a game-high 26 points. Copp also had eight rebounds, one block and one assist.
Angie Baca had 21 points and five rebounds for the Hornets, who led at halftime, 48-36.
The Hornet defense limited Santa Monica to 39% shooting from the field. Quiana Knox was Santa Monica’s leading scorer with 17 points.
In another Fullerton tournament game:
Cypress 71, Los Angeles Valley 62--Nancy Love scored 20 points for Cypress in the first-round victory. Teammate Heather Green scored 16 points for the Chargers.
Cheryl Rodriguez scored 20 points for L.A. Valley.
In the San Jose women’s basketball tournament:
Orange Coast 70, Santa Rosa 38--Jennifer Ludwicki scored 17 points and Ani Saradarian had 13 points and six rebounds for Orange Coast (12-3), which outscored Santa Rosa in the first half, 32-16.
In the Santa Ana men’s basketball tournament:
Mt. San Antonio 84, Saddleback 81--Saddleback’s Vernon Jackson scored 24 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for the Gauchos (6-7), who were tied at the half, 37-37.
Santa Ana 103, Whatcom (Wash.) 88--Lohnnie Tape scored 32 points and had 10 rebounds for Santa Ana. Teammate Khary Walker was 11 of 13 from the free-throw line and finished with 22 points.
