ROSE BOWL REPORT

D.J. Dobbins is Woodson for a fortnight.

The Washington State reserve gets to put on a maize and blue jersey with No. 2 on the back and do what he does best--fantasize and improvise.

Dobbins is a scout-team virtuoso who takes his role seriously.

“I go in and watch the same film the receivers do to get the personality of the player I’m going to impersonate,” said Dobbins, a junior.

Before the Rose Bowl matchup, Dobbins said, his greatest role of the season was as USC cornerback Brian Kelly. But now he is playing the Heisman Trophy winner--at least on defense.

“With Charles Woodson, I had to get a little cocky,” Dobbins said. “I just talk to the quarterback, Ryan Leaf, talk to our receivers. Jump around and try to make them audibilize.”

So when he talks trash to his own teammates, what does Dobbins say?

“You [stink]. I won the Heisman Trophy. You didn’t.”
