Beach Bus Available 3 Wednesdays in July

Share

Hop on the Camarillo Beach Bus for fun in the sun at the Ventura state beach during July.

The Beach Bus will run on three Wednesdays during the month--July 9, 16, and 23. It will depart from Pardee Plaza, near McDonald’s, at 9 a.m. and the Camarillo Community Center, on the corner of Carmen Drive and Burnley Street, at 9:30 a.m. The bus will arrive at the beach at 10 a.m.

It will depart at 2 p.m. and return to Pardee Plaza at 2:30 p.m. and the Camarillo Community Center at 3 p.m.

The cost is $3 per round trip.

If the service is highly used, the Camarillo Youth Advisory Council and the Pleasant Valley Department of Recreation and Parks will look into offering the service the rest of summer.

The idea for the bus service came from a Camarillo High School student at a Youth Advisory Council meeting, said Dan Turbyfill, recreation coordinator.

Questionnaires were distributed at Camarillo schools. Out of 1,093 surveys returned, more than half of the students indicated they would ride the Beach Bus once a week and that the Ventura state beach would be their preferred destination.

“This is a good thing for the community because it is a safe, positive way to get to the beach,” Turbyfill said.

Tickets may be purchased at the Camarillo Community Center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and at Mission Oaks Park, 5501 Mission Oaks Blvd., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Parents must sign a registration form in order for teenagers to ride the Beach Bus.

If rides are needed to the Beach Bus pickup spots, call Dial-A-Ride at 988-4CAT for door-to-door service.
