The prospective trade that would have sent outfielder Greg Vaughn and two minor leaguers from the San Diego Padres to New York for pitcher Kenny Rogers, second baseman Mariano Duncan and a minor leaguer, will not take place, the Yankees announced Saturday.

“The conditions precedent to the completion of the trade cannot be satisfied,” Rick Cerrone, director of Yankee media relations, said in a statement.

Although Cerrone would not confirm the reason for the deal falling through, it was widely speculated that Vaughn didn’t pass his physical, probably because of an injured right shoulder.

Rogers and Duncan had said their goodbyes to teammates when informed of the impending deal during the Toronto Blue Jay-Yankee game Friday night and left before the conclusion of the game.

“I don’t think anybody’s left with bad feelings, but it’s strange to say goodbye to people, then hello,” Yankee Manager Joe Torre said. “But New York is all about distractions.”

Hideki Irabu pitched a two-hitter in his final start for triple-A Columbus as the Clippers defeated the Toledo Mud Hens, 12-0. Irabu is scheduled to start Thursday night at Yankee Stadium for New York against the Detroit Tigers.

Brady Anderson was out of Baltimore’s starting lineup against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday, but the Oriole outfielder still plans to play in Tuesday’s All-Star game.

“Do you really think I’d miss that game?” Anderson said a day after he suffered leg bruises when hit by a pitch in each game of a doubleheader against the Tigers.
