Wife’s Despondency Delays Investigation of Man’s Death

Sheriff’s deputies delayed their investigation Monday of the death of a Malibu man who stepped in front of a truck on the Pacific Coast Highway.
Authorities said the delay was needed because his wife became extremely distressed after learning of her husband’s death.
“She is very despondent,” said Sgt. Phil Morris of the Lost Hills-Malibu sheriff’s station. “She wants to join him right now.”
On Monday, friends placed candles and flowers at the spot just west of Webb Way where John Cichocki, who was in his 70s, died after he stepped in front of a truck driving north Sunday morning, Morris said.
Cichocki apparently had been drinking at the time of the incident, Morris said.
